Norsk Europan-vinner i Wien
25. april 2006
Vinnerne formulerer selv problemstillingen slik:
– Liesing is a fragment in the suburban wasteland that currently undergoes rehabilitation. The public aim is to improve the physical conditions where that public may exist and interact within the framework of approved sustainable values. The site is exposed to a high degree of noise as well as being captured in a tunnel like condition: five levels of shipping containers on one side and 260 meter long “Unité” block on the other, with no sign of change in nearer future. How to create an architecture that enhances the values of the public and at the same time allows an individual to thrive within his own sphere?
Trioen presenterer en løsning der de introduserer en fortetting av situasjonen med “a single architectural gesture – a megastructure fully capable of absorbing programmatic and contextual demands”. Utgangspunktet er rampen opp til broen over jernbanesporene, 17 meter over bakken. Rundt rampen bygges det opp “a vertical city block and a horizontal landscape with patio housing. The superimposition of these two creates potentials for public and commercial programs– branch library, retail space, fitness center, youth club and local café.”
Reformulerer Røde Wien
Om vinnerprosjektet sier juryen flgende:
– The project is coherent and flexible at the same time in its re-invention of its type: the block as ‘slab’ – referring to Le Corbusier’s Unité d’habitation, which is being ‘laid on its side’ – shows a big development-potential in connection to programming; the mixture through the diagonal organisation of the megastructure is attractively organised vertically, in that sense the diagonal as ascending connection towards the bridge over the South-track is still valid, even if the bridge is not built; much more the project seems to use the bridge as alibi to develop a typos for the local context.
Også i skala mener juryen at prosjektet viser styrke.
– Its big scale fits to the surrounding projects and the South-track and tries accomplish an urban courtyard with collective spaces and interiors. The strategic use of the super-scale, evoking a issue concerning social tensions, contains this typological rupture. In this context it can be seen as a new formulated and further development of megastructure (superblock) in accordance to the red Vienna. The patio housing and also the loft types organized around the courtyard will have to be redesigned regarding daylight and residential organization, which is easily allowed by the elasticity of the structure.
